The mining of the future

Abstract

The mining industry is essential to the future of Chile. To the present day it has also been fundamental because of its contribution in terms of currency inflow and income from taxes. Its natural decline should give way to the emergence of a new industry built on its roots, so that, instead of leaving only abandoned mines and a legacy of environmental liabilities, it may endow the country with the best of legacies: a knowledge-based economy.
