Why there is no “Design heritage” but there is “designing heritage.”

Abstract
UNESCO recognises and safeguards intangible cultural heritage (ICH) through an agreement that is ratified by many countries. However, the design domain does not appear to be included in the convention. There is no “design heritage” discipline, perhaps because the design domain aims to provide solutions and improve situations, whereas heritage by definition is trying to preserve situations. Thus these two disciplines have conflicting natures. At the same time, as technology improves the action of “designing heritage” becomes more prevalent. Design tools, methods and techniques can merge with heritage and bring back in life memories.
